Montana is currently a “shall issue” state. Law-abiding citizens who apply will not be denied a CWP. However, with the influx of newcomers, including criminals and anti-gun advocates, the laws will change and make it more difficult to obtain a Montana CWP.
Citizens with the Montana CWP will not be reprocessed with the FBI through NICS when they purchase a new firearm; the firearm dealer, not the government, retains all firearm transaction paperwork.

We strongly encourage non-firearm owners to sign up for our Montana CWP Firearm Training Course and receive their Montana CWP even if they chose not to carry a weapon.
