The process to receive the Montana CWP is relatively simple and without complications. The background check is no more intrusive than purchasing a gun from an authorized firearms dealer; no additional requirements necessary other than photos and fingerprinting.
Applicants must meet this criteria before applying for the CWP:
Resident of Montana for no less than 6 months.
Hold a valid Montana Driver License or ID.
Attend the CWP eight hour course.
Can legally purchase and have a firearm. (no criminal history)
Older than 18 years of age.
A U.S. citizen.
The actual cost for the CWP is $55 and renews every four years for $25, our one time CWP course fee is $85 per person.
When the applicant meets the criteria they should plan a minimum of one hour at the Bozeman Justice Center to complete the CWP application and receive fingerprinting and photos. Upon approval which may take three to four weeks, applicant will by called to pick up their CWP.
